Protection, Progression, and Partying at BPCNA’s Block Party in Rockefeller Park
Battery Park City Neighborhood Association kicked off their annual #PausetheSaws anniversary celebration block party which included a wide variety of government officials and local sponsors catering to the event, all in efforts to support the association’s current movement to increase local representation in Battery Park City Authority’s board.
Founded in 1968, BPCA's missions and purpose align with maintaining, protecting and developing the local community on the Lower West Side of Manhattan. With well over 30 acres of land, BPCA along with their private developers has and continues to ensure that park users can both enjoy and be comfortable in these local areas. Along with the most recent aftermath of the pandemic, BPCNA, in conjunction with BCPA, has been focused primarily on fostering local representation and providing regional sustainability for the years to come.
Battery Park City includes approximately 16,000 residents with over 42,000 workers who support these same residents. Several popular spots within Battery Park include the South Cove, World Trade Center, consistent ocean views, and much more for these residents to enjoy.
These same residents share the same desire for members who govern their areas be those who come from it. BPCNA acts as a local and public community organization that is always taking volunteers. Now, they are asking for everyone to join their movement with the help of signing the petition that advocates for changes in the BPCA board.
In attendance at the Block Party were Assembly members Yuh-Line Niou and Charles D. Fall and more. During the event, Yuh-Line Niou awarded the BPCNA and BPCA with a Citation from the New York State Assembly, marking the day as more memorable than anticipated. Several families and children were also in attendance and seen playing in the sun, living up to the fun and vibrant atmosphere that is Battery Park City.
Several sponsors showed their support for the association and authority, all sharing a common goal for the prosperity of the community. Serving ice cream to community members was Van Leeuwen ice cream, a local NYC ice cream shop. BlueStone Lane took part in the event and served their local coffee to participants as well.
One of the most prominent sponsors at the event was Conscious planet “Save Soil”, a movement inspired by Yogi and Mystic Sadhguru to promote human and environmental consciousness of the soil crisis currently facing our Earth. Save Soil used the event to collect information from residents to support their ongoing efforts, reflective of what BPCNA is doing now.
New York City residents should anticipate what is to come of Battery Park City and its opportunity for growth. With the success of the event, they are well on their way to a better future.
